Overview
Several coasts, one island
Jamaica stretches about 235 km from end to end, and its resort areas are far apart. The north coast has calm seas and white-sand beaches; the south coast has black sand and limestone cliffs. For a charter, the right departure is almost always the one nearest your hotel.
In the northwest, Montego Bay is the busiest hub, with catamaran sail-and-snorkel trips in its marine park and sunset cruises along the coast. At the western tip, Negril is known for its long beach and West End cliffs, and for sunset and snorkel boat trips. On the north coast, Ocho Rios is a cruise port near the famous Dunn's River Falls. In the far northeast, Port Antonio is quieter and greener, with twin harbors and the Errol Flynn Marina.
Because these areas are separate markets, we treat each as its own destination when you inquire, and we only suggest charters that are practical from where you will be staying.
Honest planning
Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Westmoreland as a Category 5 storm, the strongest on record to strike Jamaica. The western and southern parishes were hit hardest, Montego Bay saw widespread flooding and Falmouth was severely damaged. Many hotels were affected, and recovery was still under way into 2026.
Plenty of Jamaica is welcoming visitors again, but conditions vary from place to place.
How we plan around it
- We confirm that each vessel, departure point and stop is operating before you book.
- We avoid naming venues we cannot currently verify.
- If your area is not ready for charters, we will tell you plainly.
By region
Choosing your coast
Montego Bay
Catamaran sail-and-snorkel trips in the Montego Bay Marine Park, where the tourism board highlights reefs such as Doctor's Cave and Secrets, plus sunset cruises and coastal trips. The Montego Bay Yacht Club, at Montego Freeport, is a members' club known for sailing events.
NorthwestNegril
Sunset cruises along the beach and past the West End cliffs, home to the famous Rick's Café, plus glass-bottom and snorkel trips within the Negril Marine Park, declared in 1998. Charters view the cliffs from the water rather than landing.
Western tipOcho Rios
A north-coast cruise port with coastal cruising and snorkeling. Dunn's River Falls tumbles onto a beach west of town; it is a land attraction, and we do not promise boat landings there.
North coastPort Antonio
A quieter yachting town in the northeast, with the Errol Flynn Marina, Navy Island, the Blue Lagoon and Frenchman's Cove along a lush coastline. It is far from Montego Bay and Negril, so it suits guests staying nearby.

Jamaica FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Yacht Charters in Jamaica
Straight answers to the questions travelers ask most about chartering in Jamaica. If yours is not here, ask us when you request a quote.
Where do Jamaica boat charters leave from?
It depends on the area: Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios or Port Antonio. We match the departure point to where you are staying, because the resort areas are far apart.
Is Jamaica open for charters after Hurricane Melissa?
Recovery has been under way since Melissa struck in October 2025, and many areas are welcoming visitors, but conditions vary. We confirm each vessel and stop before you book.
Can we do a sunset cruise in Negril?
Yes, sunset and snorkel boat trips are a classic Negril experience, cruising along the beach and past the West End cliffs.
Can we see Rick's Café from the water?
Rick's Café sits on Negril's West End cliffs, and boats can view the cliffs from the water. We do not promise stops or landings there.
Can a boat take us to Dunn's River Falls?
Dunn's River Falls is a land attraction on a beach near Ocho Rios. We have not been able to confirm boat landings, so we plan it as a separate land excursion.
Is there snorkeling in Montego Bay?
Yes. The Montego Bay Marine Park protects reefs that the tourism board highlights for snorkeling and diving, including Doctor's Cave Reef and Secrets Reef.
Is there a marina in Port Antonio?
Yes, the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio, a quieter base in Jamaica's northeast.
What is the Luminous Lagoon?
A bioluminescent lagoon at Falmouth, where the water glows at night. It is toured on local lagoon boats rather than by charter yacht.
When is hurricane season in Jamaica?
June 1 to November 30. Rain is heaviest from May to October.
What can we see by boat around Port Antonio?
The lush coastline around Port Antonio includes Navy Island, which Errol Flynn once owned, as well as the Blue Lagoon, fed by the sea and underground springs, and Frenchman's Cove, where a river meets the sea. We confirm which stops are operating and practical for your charter.
How far is Negril from Montego Bay?
Negril sits at Jamaica's western tip, about 80 km southwest of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Because the two areas are that far apart, it is usually simplest to charter from whichever one you are staying in.
